Kwik-Site Settles Charges of Unlicensed Exports of Scope Mounts
The U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced today that Kwik-Site Corporation, Wayne, Michigan-based manufacturer of scope mounts for firearms, has agreed to pay a $54,000 civil penalty to settle charges that it exported firearm scope mounts in violation of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). As part of the settlement agreement, BIS agreed to suspend $27,000 of the penalty for a period of one year and waive that amount if Kwik-Site does not commit any additional export control violations during the suspension period.
This settlement stems from a BIS investigation that found Kwik-Site to have had made more than 100 exports of firearm scope mounts to Macedonia, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Canada, and Switzerland without obtaining the required export licenses. BIS noted that when Kwik-Site was initially informed of the BIS investigation, the company suspended the export of all firearm scope mounts, sought assistance from a Department of Commerce Export Assistance Center and subsequently resumed exporting its product in compliance with the EAR.
