EU Decision on Turkey's Accession Expected on December 17th

The European Council is meeting today and tomorrow in Brussels and is expected to announce a decision tomorrow, December 17, 2004, on the timing of Turkey's accession to the EU. We recommend the following Web site for news, updates and information on this developing story: www.turkishpress.com. Also, the EU's official Web site has a page dedicated to Turkey's candidacy at: europa.eu.int/comm/enlargement/turkey/index.htm.

Romania and Bulgaria are nearing the conclusion of their accession negotiations with the EU and are expected to become the 26th and 27th members of the EU on January 1, 2007.
